UIDAI’s Aadhaar card…

Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit identity number for residents in India issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which is an arm of Government of India. The Aadhaar card contains the Aadhaar number as well as basic personal information of the holder, photograph and biometric data in the form of 10 fingerprints and eye iris scans.

Aadhaar Enrolment Centres have been set up in all cities and towns of India. Each of these Centres have computers, Aadhaar software as well as trained personnel. From UIDAI’s website, access the Enrolment Centre’s address and mobile number. Set up the appointment with the Enrolment Centre by phone or through the online route. Visit the Centre with original address/ID proofs as well as photocopies of the same. After verification of documents your fingerprints and iris scans will be captured by the computer. Within a month e-Aadhaar will sent to applicant’s email ID and Aadhaar card will follow by speedpost to the address of the applicant by in 2-3 months. E-Aadhaar has the same status as the Aadhaar card.

Role of Aadhaar card in everyday life…

Presently Aadhaar card can be linked to Bank account, mobile SIM card, LPG connection and subsidy cash transfer. Over a period of time in future, Government may consider linking Aadhaar to ration card, voter ID, passport, income tax returns, driving license, scholarship cash transfer, Provident Fund account, property registration, land documents etc. It is clear that usage of Aadhaar card would become widespread as time passes. Hence, all those who have not yet applied for an Aadhaar card should do so at an early date.

1. Enrolment Centre Search

Enter State, District/City and Locality/Area. Search result will show Centre Address, Contact Person & Mobile No.

2. Appointment for Aadhaar Enrolment

Visit the Enrolment Centre personally with ID proof & address proof, to obtain appointment. Alternately, access this link, enter your details, choose Enrolment Centre and select date & time for appointment.

3. Check Aadhaar Status

After enrolling yourself at the Enrolment Centre, to know status of issue of your Aadhaar Card, access the link and enter the Enrolment ID.

4. Download e-Aadhaar

Access this link to get electronic version of Aadhaar which is as valid as the physical Aadhhar.  You need your Enrolment No (EID) or Aadhaar No (UID) to download.

5. Misplaced Aadhaar Enrolment Slip? Find EID / UID

To download e-Aadhaar, you need EID/UID. If these numbers are misplaced, you can click on this link, enter Name and registered Mobile No & Email ID. EID/UID will be sent to your Mobile No/Email.

6. Updating Aadhaar Information

For online updating, login to the above link. For sending update request by post to Unique Identification Authority of India, address is P O Box No 10, Chhindwara, MP-480001 or P O Box 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad-500034.
