Paragliding for sheer exhilaration!
Soar like a bird high above the mountains and look down at the breathtaking landscape below! This is the exhilarating free flying promise that the paragliding hobby offers. The sensation of thrill is simply indescribable.
A paraglider is a foot-launched inflatable wing, also called a canopy which is made from tear proof nylon. You sit in a harness which is connected to the canopy by Kevlar (a high technology fibre) lines.
Stand at the edge of the hillside at Kamshet near Pune (or at other locations), inflate the wing over your head, run a few steps and you are floating in the air! Once in the air, you would be able to maintain and even gain altitude using lifting air currents and thermals. Landing a paraglider is also easy.
Tandem paragliding holidays...
If you are interested in flying solo, you can join a 2-day or 3-day paragliding workshop conducted by the paragliding academies. However, if you seeking to enjoy the thrill of paragliding without having to learn it, you can fly in a tandem paraglider which is designed to carry the pilot and one passenger.
As passenger, you sit in the front in a comfortable harness and the pilot seated behind you controls the glider. Once the glider is high up in the sky, you can converse with the pilot who will introduce you to the topography below. Most of the academies offer tandem paragliding holiday packages.
Most of the paragliding academies listed in Resources below are at Kamshet which is about 47 km from Pune and 16 km from Lonavala/Khandala. Kamshet is accessible easily by road and rail from Mumbai and Pune. Other paragliding facilities are at Bhopal, Bilaspur, Idukki and Kangra Valley. Paragliding sites are also in Bir Billing (Himachal Pradesh), Manali, Nainital and Mussoorie but these are to be accessed by individuals with their own paragliders.
